The Strawberry Thief is perfectly located to explore Dorset and Somerset. The village of Corton Denham is a ten-minute walk across two fields, and the fascinating Sherborne Castle is just down the road. There are numerous villages and towns to explore within a short drive, Stourhead can be reached within 20-minutes and Longleat Safari Park in under 40-minutes. Or you can just hole up and relax at the cottage for the whole of your stay.

local towns + villages

  • Explore Sherborne and its independent shops, cafés, markets and antique shops. Don’t miss the Castle and Abbey!

  • Frome is packed full of independent shops and art galleries. There is so much to see but there are a few steep hills to watch out for.

  • Bruton is another lovely place to visit - it has quite an arty vibe and there are lots of independent shops and places to eat.

country walks

  • There are so many routes - we have a handy list at the cottage to get you started.

  • A quick stroll will get you to the local pub. The Queens Arms offers a warm welcome and there is always a good selection of pork pies on the bar!

  • For the more adventurous, we’re just yards from the Monarch's Way which was named as the Sunday Times best winter walk.

eating out

  • The Queens Arms is our local pub which serves excellent food and cream teas. Be sure to pop by!

  • One of our regular haunts is The Green Restaurant in Sherborne. It is popular with locals and offers a good à la carte menu.

  • No trip to Bruton is complete without a pit stop at Roth Bar & Grill. The food is splendid, and the cocktails aren’t bad either.
